CROSSGIRL
FOUND OBJECT ART CROSSES
Who is this girl? She doesn't look cross..

Kristin Collier Bennett, Crossgirl, aka k.c. bennett,  is a nice Florida girl who makes crosses. Angry girl and miffed girl were already taken.
Why crosses?

Why not? Sorry, I have no redemption story, no alter call tales or death bed conversions. You can make one up for me if it enhances the art for you.  I make crosses because it's what I do. I can't explain why. Perhaps someone is trying to get my attention. Maybe some day there will be an answer.
But what do they mean?

Well now.....that depends entirely on which side of the fence you are on. I would never dream of telling you what a piece meant. If it speaks to you, it has a meaning, but
you own that. And hey, if you're already owning the meaning, might as well own the cross too! Alas, no scripture quotes or profound insights here.

So, how do you get your ideas?

I start with two pieces of wood. They become a cross. I rummage around through my considerable collection of "stuff" and it all, somehow, comes together.Sometimes, when I'm done, a Bible passage comes to mind. Sometimes it's something else entirely.  I've heard artists, writers, musicians, describe the creative process as channeling. That's pretty much right on target.
How did this get started?
Once upon a time there was a princess who was dethroned. She spent considerable effort trying to regain her princess status to no avail. In crisis, she decided she needed a new identity and folk art collector felt just about right. But not quite because there was a fence that wanted to be made into crosses and it was hard to ignore. Until one day there was  a sign from God. In the middle of a busy road  a large yellow sign which said
PRODUCE.The sign was accepted, the fence's wish granted and the crosses have been produced ever since. Folk artist is more fun than princess anyway.
